You might be surprised to learn that I have always struggled with finding joy at Christmas time. The root of it most likely stems from being a child of divorced parents and seemingly forced to choose where to spend Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. Unfortunately, that childhood conflict carried with me into adulthood and only became amplified by even more extensive holiday travel, over-commercialism and the fact that while the season brings out the best in some people, it also exposes the worst. Ugh, don't even get me started on Christmas music BEFORE December 1st and all of those "toy for joy" like campaigns that reinforce the ideology that Christmas IS all about the gifts. . .
I'm absolutely positive the words "Grinch" have been whispered more than a few times in my presence.
But, thanks to an amazing man, my husband, Mark (the other half of Super Stamp Girl), I want to share with you how I found holiday happiness again from two simple words.
Instead of dwelling on all the things I hated about Christmas, Mark simply suggested I focus on the things I loved instead. And this is what I've learned so far:
I know that my list isn't yet complete and with every passing holiday, I only hope to discover newfound joys. If you struggle with holiday cheer or battle the Christmas blues, my simple advice to you is this:
