Hello my friends and happy Monday to you! I am grateful to have enjoyed the last week off from blogging to fully enjoy my time on Cape Cod at our annual craft retreat. It has grown to be one of my most relaxing and enjoyed vacations of the year. The same group of eight ladies (myself included) have been staying at the Beach House Inn in West Dennis every February for three years now. We rent the entire bed and breakfast (7 bedrooms/7 bathrooms) for seven days. I won't tell you the unbelievable price we pay for it, because you are sure to hate me!
What do we do? We craft. Seven whole days of totally uninterrupted crafting! No husbands, no kids, no pets, no laundry, no cleaning. Zero obligations! This IS the life. Some of the ladies knit, some stamp, some hook rugs, some scrapbook and some paint. And, some of us do a LOT of online shopping. . .
We plan ahead and organize meals and snacks to bring with us on the retreat so we don't waste time cooking or cleaning! We do a lot of casserole and crock pot dishes, and eat most of our meals on paper plates - so let's be honest, fancy we are not!
This year's retreat began on a very somber note as our beloved friend Sue passed away after a brief battle with liver and pancreatic cancer in late December. This was our first retreat without her and thus, the atmosphere had changed. There was a vacant hole in our hearts as we remembered the great times we all had shared with Sue at the Beach House Inn.
I hope you will enjoy these photos from our stay:
Here are some of the crafts I worked on this year:
Hello and welcome back my friends to Day 2 of the Creative Journey: Art Retreat on Cape Cod. If you missed the post from yesterday about Day 1 of this retreat, please CLICK HERE.
For Day 2 of the retreat, we had new name tags, new card kits and best of all NEW goodie bags with still even more amazing products so generously donated from the following companies:
Concord and 9th
Winnie and Walter
Simon Says Stamp
My Sentiments Exactly
These are all the items that were in our swag bags!
Here are the cards that we made on Day 2 of the retreat. *Please note these were all created by Jenn Shurkus and are not my designs.
We got to use the new Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Inks and Oxide inks and these were so much fun! I have already ordered ALL of the oxide inks to start playing with at home. . . *Note to self, don't forget to put those on my November budget. . .
Stacking sentiments is very popular right now in the crafting industry and we created this effect on a few cards:
Nikki and I had such a great time at this retreat!
I would highly encourage anyone to sign up for one of Jenn's events.
They are a lot of fun and you will learn so much!
The last weekend of October, my friend Nikki and I attended the Creative Journey Art Retreat on Cape Cod. You might have heard me mention it only a bajillion times by now! Anyway, it was our first time going and we had SOOOooo much fun! We were anticipating it to be great, but I think it even exceeded our expectations! We're still talking about it to all of our friends and telling EVERYONE that they have to join us next time.
Today I wanted to share some of the photos with you that I took on Day 1 of the retreat:
The event was hosted at Cape Space, a beautiful flexible working space. You can rent rooms or office space daily, weekly or on a monthly basis. But, we all know that Jen really picked this space because of her love of teal!
Our seats had designated name tags, information packets, card kits and awesome goodie bags!
These were some pretty amazing swag bags featuring the latest stamps sets on the market by big name companies!
All of the kits are so neatly organized and everything is pre die-cut and ready to assemble.
Here are some of the cards we made on the first day, all designed by Jen Shurkus herself. *Please note, these are not my creations.
We learned a few new techniques each day. Here was a piece of watercoloring that we did on one card:
We were also introduced to the new "turnabout" stamps by Concord and 9th designed for use with a MISTI.
We also used 18kt gold leafing pens to give our cards a beautiful metallic gold edging. You know that I had to come home and also order the leafing pen in silver as well!
And, there was lots of shopping! Essentially Jen had everything available for purchase that we used in the classes! Dangerous. Very dangerous.
There were raffles prizes from various companies and I won this new set of Distress Crayons from Tim Holtz.
I hope you enjoyed these photos from Day 1 of the retreat. I have more photos from Day 2 for you tomorrow!
I have just registered for my first ever Creative Journey Art Retreat on the Cape with Jenn Shurkus and I am SOOoooo excited! Many of my fellow stamping friends have raved about Jenn's retreats for years, but the timing was never right for me to attend. This year I was determined to work it into my schedule and I did!! I can't wait to go to Hyannis in October! Jenn is a Creative Designer for Lawn Fawn and more importantly, she loves stamping, the beach and cats!! That makes her my new BFF!
